June 2009

With all the global attention on the swine flu virus, following close on the heels of bird flu, health and healthcare have been on everyone’s minds. While we don’t yet know the breadth of this particular outbreak, health is always a critical topic, particularly when living in a foreign city. So in this issue of Shanghai Family we bring you important Shanghai-focused content and resources on health care.

First, contributing writer Jennifer Lee shows you how to plan for an emergency in Shanghai.  Then, Rachel Middagh gives us the lowdown on allergies. Psychologist Lauren Muhlheim reminds us that, despite the challenges of living abroad, it’s as important as ever to exercise, and notably, Dr. Jeffrey Staples of ParkwayHealth provides expert information on the real threat of swine flu in China.

Then when you put down this magazine, visit shfamily.com for a downloadable emergency action form to complete for your family and domestic help. Emergencies are thankfully rare, but preparation will give you peace of mind.

Warm regards,

Kate Lilienthal
