Shanghai’s Graduates

June 2010

While June marks the end of the semester for many students, it’s also the beginning of a new life for Shanghai’s graduates. We offer a glimpse at the individual paths of four graduates.

Esther Lau:  Dulwich College graduate
“I plan on studying Natural Sciences at Cambridge University in England, where I received a four-year scholarship. I’m looking forward to university life and I chose the course because of its flexibility. I’ll be able to learn a range of subjects before deciding on my major. I’m originally from Hong Kong and have been at Dulwich College Shanghai for the past three years. This summer, I plan on traveling and exploring more of China before starting university.”

Natalie Wigle:  Concordia graduate
“For the past three summers, I’ve volunteered at an orphanage in Port au Prince and surrounding villages in Haiti. And I plan on taking a gap year to do more work there. After the January 12 earthquake hit, our school held some fund raising efforts that so far raised a total of 16,500 USD. It will go to Safewater Nexus, a volunteer group I worked with, and I plan on reporting back to the school about how the donations are being used and highlight continuing needs.”

Alexandra Tan :  SMIC graduate
“I came to Shanghai from Singapore when I was in the third grade, so I’ve seen Shanghai grow over the last ten years. This fall, I’ll attend Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada where I intend to pursue a Masters degree, but I’m not sure in what just yet. I chose SFU because it’s in a city environment that’s still close to the mountains and nature. I can’t wait to go skiing this winter!  I’m going to  spend the summer with my family in Shanghai  visiting the World Expo.”

Alexia Cohade :  YCIS graduate
“I was born in Mexico to French parents, but I’ve lived my whole life overseas. We’ve lived in Mexico, Brazil, U.S., Singapore, Switzerland, France and now China. I plan to continue my global journey by joining Wharton’s Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business at the University of Pennsylvania. I chose this program because it’s unique – it brings together 45 students from across the globe with similar international experiences.”
