We’ve just spent the long weekend on Lamma Island in Hong Kong. What a beautiful place. So laid back, it reminds me of Byron Bay in Australia – but 20 years ago. People from more than 40 nationalities live on the island, many commuting to HK island for work and school. Island highlights include a few pretty [...]

We stayed at the new Nake Stables Private Reserve over the Christmas Holiday. Though they had only opened (a soft opening) just 3 months or so ago, our family of five found it to be amazing! We stayed in a Lakeside Earth Hut and would highly recommend this resort to any families (or couples). The staff [...]

“South of the Clouds” is the literal meaning of Yunnan, and stretching from the high Tibetan Plateau down to the subtropical climes bordering Southeast Asia, it is an amazingly diverse place. Yunnan is the most biologically diverse area in the temperate world, and contains a host of rare and endangered wildlife [...]

Elizabeth, did you end up getting the Fast Track Service? I wish I’d seen this sooner. I can’t imagine that the visa lines would be that long. Visa on Arrival is very easy in Indonesia, at least from my experiences! Let us know about your trip!

We’re thinking of going to Ningbo for the September long weekend. Can anyone suggest a good hotel? Or has anyone stayed on one of the islands off the coast near there?

Wow Lynette that sounds really interesting and certainly you have had a life full of travel experiences ;) From what I read in the article it seems that travel by cargo ship is neither cheap these days nor does it seem to be lacking in amenities. First class dining, fitness facilities, sun deck and so on…so perhaps [...]

About 20 years ago, with a 1 year old in tow, I traveled “rat class” on a cargo ship from Indonesia to Singapore. As you might have guessed, I was a budget backpacker and the trip was certainly cheap, but not for the faint-hearted. Bunks, way down in the hull of the boat, communal “bathroom” and [...]

Hmm, for Asian travels, I would be open to travel on the Chinese cargo ships. Any idea where to find these “China cargo” travel network? :-) SH is a bit far from Montreal (mentioned in the article, if I read correctly). Another small concern (not mentioned in the article) is high seas piracy in certain troubled sea-lanes [...]

http://matadornetwork.com/notebook/how-to-travel-by-cargo-ship/ This is so insanely cool! My cousin was a merchant marine for years before he became a fire fighter…and his stories from traveling the world rival those of myth and legend…local Boston kid that never left home til he joined the MM… Who knew you could do this and do it in relative style? I thought flying [...]

Hmm…I don’t know about this. It was simple and we came in at night…they have more airport staff and “helpers” ready to help you. What’s the weather like in October?
