Apples, apples, apples - whether you're a Golden Delicious fan or a champion of the classic Red, there are so many great ways to eat this seasonal favorite. Here are 5 delicious ways to shake things up and keep the doctor away.

1. Oatmeal-Brown Sugar Baked Apples

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium apples
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • Pinch ground cloves
  • 1 tbsp butter, divided into four pieces
  • 1 cup hot water

What next?

1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

2. Remove the cores of the apples within a half inch of the bottom. A melon baller or pairing knife should work well for this.

3. Mix the brown sugar, oats and spices in a bowl, then pack the holes.

4. Arrange the apples in a baking dish, then top each with a little square of butter.

5. After pouring water in the bottom of the dish, cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes.

6. Serve with ice cream, whipped cream or whatever other topping you see fit!

2. Apple and Cheddar Crostinis

Ingredients:

  • 2 Gala or Golden Delicious apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 baguette
  • 1 8-oz package of white cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaces, chopped

What next?

1. Combine the apples, cinnamon and sugar in a large bowl, tossing to coat.

2. On a non-stick skillet, cook for 10-12 minutes over a medium flame, stirring until the apples soften.

3. After preheating the oven to 400° F, arrange the sliced baguette on a large, covered cookie sheet and spread the apple mixture evenly on the pieces.

4. Top with slices of cheddar, bake for 8-10 minutes, then garnish with fresh thyme.

3. Spiced Sweet Potato and Apple Soup

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 3/4 in pieces
  • 1 apple, chopped 
  • 2 cups low-sodium vegetable broth
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg and cinnamon
  • 1 clove

What next?

1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over a medium heat, then add in the chopped onion.

2. Season with salt and pepper, and cook for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3. Add the sweet potatoes, chopped apple, broth, spiced and 1 1/2 cups of water.

4. Simmer and cook covered for about 12-15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.

5. Transfer the mixture in small batches to your blender, adding water as desired to reach your ideal consistency.

6. Soup can be served with blue cheese, walnuts, toast and, yes, even more sliced apple!

4. Apple Cider Mimosas

For a spiced touch on a brunch classic, go for this easy 4 ingredient cocktail.

Ingredients:

  • Apple cider
  • Champagne or Prosecco
  • Thick-cut sugar crystals (optional)
  • Apple slices for garnish (optional)

What next?

1. Dip the rim of your champagne flute in water, then into a shallow dish filled with thick cut, sugar crystals.

2. Mix 1 part cider with 1 part champagne or prosecco (depending on your tastes) and garnish with an apple slice! Simply crisp.

5. Peanut Butter Apple Rounds

An easy to make sweet treat for you or your kids, if you don't have tons of time (or extra hands) to spare, this snack should do the trick.

Ingredients:

  • 2 sliced apples
  • Peanut butter (smooth or crunchy)
  • Chocolate chips
  • Crushed walnuts or shaved almonds

What next?

1. Place the apple on its side and slice into rounds, eating the curved tops and bottoms as you go.

2. Spread a thick layer of peanut butter across them, then sprinkle with chocolate chips, and whichever nut(s) you prefer. You can swap out or add in whichever toppings you're feeling, whether it be for sprinkles, seeds or even a drizzle of honey.
