Did you know that the Pirates of the Caribbean film series was originally inspired by a Disney attraction? The idea was born from the minds of Walt Disney and his imagineers when they decided to turn a pirate wax museum into an attraction using the latest innovation: Audio-Animatronics technology. The opening of this attraction, in New Orleans 1967, was a big hit and eventually led on to the release of the first blockbuster film in 2003.
Now, you can experience an entire land devoted to pirates at Shanghai Disneyland Resort – the first pirate-themed land in a Disney Resort anywhere in the world! There's a ton of exciting attractions, features and the largest turkey legs we've ever seen that will have kids – big (adults included) and small – eager to experience a pirate's life.

Enter Treasure Cove and you'll find yourself in the first of five neighbourhoods, with the other four going by the names of: Shipwreck Shore, Fort Snobbish, Landlubber Landing and the Village. You'll be charmed by the personality that each location exudes through the mix of architectral styles, giant ships, pirate-themed restaurants and more! It's enough to keep you busy all day.
This is a spectacular indoor attraction that we would never tire of. Storytelling merges with state-of-the-art technology to take guests on a wild adventure with Captain Jack Sparrow, who plots to steal the priceless treasure of Davy Jones. You'll spin all ways, encounter fearless pirates, gaze upon beautiful mermaids and get up-close and personal with the kraken. But what you'll really remember afterwards are the incredibly lifelike nautical scenes.
At this shipwreck turned play area, we're sure that kids will love playing pirates in the make believe interactive zone. On board the remains of the French galleon and surrounding beach, kids will be able to spray, splash and even climb among random bursts of water, sound effects and animated elements.
An elaborate and exciting stage production at El Teatro Fandango: Eye of the Storm: Captain Jack's Stunt Spectacular. Here, you'll get your fill of stunts, swordfights, more incredible scenery, light-hearted humour and brilliant visual effects that will astound you. The show is performed in Mandarin but, even if you struggle to understand, it's still an entertaining watch.
Apart from grabbing a turkey leg whilst you meander through the different neighbourhoods (which smell amazing, by the way), celebrate the freewheeling pirate life at Barbossa's Bounty. This restaurant reflects a lively, aromatic and colourful atmosphere with a gorgeous al fresco seating area. It'll be hard to believe that you're still in Shanghai! Featuring Asian barbecue from pirate chefs, there are a wide variety of options to choose from. Check out the Pirate's Feast (¥278/platter) for an indulgent offerings of turkey legs, seafood churros, succulent ribs and more that can be shared between two to four people – depending on how hungry you are.
