Time To Treat Yourself

Start the new year as you mean to go on with a much-needed dose of R&R at DVA Boutique Spa

Hidden away from the crowds and sounds of South Shaanxi Road is DVA Boutique Spa, a quiet and tranquil place to relax and receive some TLC. Fram- ing the entrance to DVA is its name written on a gold-plated plaque and gorgeous green vines, with beautiful owers dotted around on the ground. Upon entering the spa, I was welcomed by its owner, Tina, a lady whose obvious passion for wellness and skincare is equal only to that of her love of people and community.

Over a cup of green tea, Tina expressed how astounded she felt daily by the number of her clients, both male and female, who fail to understand not only how to take care of their skin but how important it is. While DVA o ers a fantastic range of facials, and wellness treat- ments including massages, waxing, manicures and pedicures, Tina emphasised that what they are most proud of is their dedication to using natural methods and eco-friendly cosmetics.

“We of course o er the latest in skin- care technologies such as Ultrasonic, non-invasive sound energy that helps exfoliate and hydrate, and laser, but we prefer to deliver our treatments using a combination of signature hand techniques, naturally-made tools, and natural, organic skincare products.”

On the day my skin was su ering from being dry and dull, so I selected DVA’s Skin Hydrating facial (850 RMB) - a 70-minute treatment that aims to rid the skin of impurities and toxins, and give you a boost of hydra- tion and vitamin B3.

After being relieved of my bags, I was guided to a warm, cosy room to change and make myself comforta- ble. My facialist then quickly prepared a variety of tools and cosmet- ics and politely requested that I turn over onto my front. Part of DVA’s sig- nature methodology is that all clients should have a 10 or 15-minute back and shoulder massage before paying any attention to the face. This helps to increase blood flow, relieve pain and blockages, and help you relax.

After my massage, the rest of the treatment consisted of five stages: cleansing, ridding of impurities, massaging, applying a hydrating mask and then moisturising. The massage felt amazing as she used both her hands and a guasha (a Chinese facial tool used to unblock lymph nodes in the face and neck) and the mask she applied felt deliciously cool against my irritated skin.

What felt like moments later, I walked out of my treatment room looking and feeling a thousand times better than I had walking in. Don’t underestimate the power of a guasha facial massage! Thank you DVA I will most definitely be back again.
